  1. woah. those tiles are intense! i actually thought "oooh, b+w, those are pretty!" until i realized what they were. :(

i love the idea of cutout words making light in shadows, too. i always wonder who thought of simple, fun things like that, and how they came to be made.

  2. It took me a while to notice those tiles too when I was at the location! When I pointed them out it seemed like everybody else was like "duh" but sometimes one's eyes don't react immediately, even on loaded symbols like the swastika (which can be a beautiful symbol in it's original context, here it was however very clear what it alluded to - and after all it's more or less completely tainted in the entire western society).
Really loved the cutout too - not too cheesy or obvious. Such a good placing with the letters in the ceiling, hardly noticeable on a cloudy day, but always present.

  3. glad i wasn't the only one! i guess we're always just looking for beauty in the whole, rather than figuring out the details? i know i'm rather drawn to patterns, regardless of what they're caused by (mould is an excellent example of this, gross, i know).

i do find it sad that symbols can be associated with such evil - not just swastikas (which are originally sunwheel images, btw), but things like black cats, pentagrams, etc. i try to view things objectively, but it's tough.
