My dad told me about Jindřich Štreit today. Remarkable photography, to the extent that I have to recommend it here (a first time, I usually keep to tumblr for that). And an inspiration for the next time I put new film in my camera and have a "color or black and white?"-crisis.

gosh you know some pretty people...
ReplyDeleteI can feel how lights caress him. Porvoo is the most beautiful place in world.
ReplyDeleteThe first one is awsome.
ReplyDeletefantastic portraits :)
ReplyDelete"color or black and white?"-crisis
ReplyDeletehahhh i love that ♥
Thank you very much! Just snapshots from the long-gone summer...
ReplyDeleteI-d, I'll pass it on!
Geneviève, I have one every single time I load new film! And I always end up asking the people around me for opinions and they always shout "COLOR" and that's how I wind up shooting mostly color shots... That and the fear of encountering something with insanely beautiful colors and not being able to document it...
yes, oh i know exactly how you mean: i have only once been able to bring myself to put bw film in my camera because of that fear! it is such a strange nervousness, and so one-sided, because the colour will always win when it comes to that kind of battle. but it isn't everything, even though i think we get caught up in the misconception that bw is somehow limiting. maybe i just need to carry two of my favourite cameras around all the time, one with bw and one with colour - not terribly practical! but seeing that beautiful work by Jindřich Štreit has got me inspired for bw now - thank you so much for sharing it :)
ReplyDeletereading your lines, girls - have to agree. though i could be able to shoot bw more often. // being czech - i need to say one more name here - josef koudelka. he is amazing, too. // being helen's follower, i need to -again- only say: great job, helen ♥
Barun, I love Koudelka! But I feel he's a lot more famous than Štreit thanks to his 1968-photos of Prague and because of his Magnum-membership. Definitely another huge b&w-inspirator!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much :)
the portrait of malin is really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteand if i had to choose, i would shout "color" as well.
Hej! Hade tänkt kommentera lite samma sak som Aja, hihi. Det var himla kul att träffas, synd att jag tappade bort dig sen! Hoppas vi ses igen :)

ReplyDeleteJ, thank you! To be honest, I'd probably be a color!-shouter as well. Without knowing why, really!
ReplyDeleteRed - Tack detsamma! :) Om min planerade Åbo-utflykt någonsin blir av ska jag fråga dig om tips!
Bocian, dziekuje! Twoj blog podoba mi sie tez bardzo :)

ExertMega, Freja, F, Liina - thank you very much :)
thanks for the tip, i really enjoyed discovering jindřich Štreit's work.
ReplyDeletei stumbled upon gundula schulze eldowy's photographs a couple of days ago and found them to be quite similar, although taken during the 70s and 80s in east germany. maybe you'll like her work as well. and it's in black and white too. ;)
