January 2010 - langur

Hanuman langur on the way up to the Hanuman temple on Anjanadri hill in Karnataka.

I still haven't properly gone through all my photos from India - found this picture during the weekend when scanning negatives.
Click the photo for playlist on youtube with old Bollywood-songs that I'm obsessed with at the moment.

  1. wow...those eyes are amazing! and the tones of this film are incredible - what kind did you use? (and how on earth did you get this shot?! please tell me you didn't climb a tree...!)

    1. It's Ilford's Pan F Plus (iso 50). The shot was taken from the steps leading up to the summit of the hill (the tree was growing from some crack in a rock or something) - so no climbing in trees although the 600 steep steps were pretty challenging :)

i've never tried ilford, but the grain looks incredible...and the range of tones is so insane in this shot!

  3. Your photos have been the only medicine for my India-longing the past six months. Now you topped it off with an amazing playlist. Just decided I'm going back this summer - fuck slaving away at a boring job, fuck always worrying about money.

Thank you for being a constant source of inspiration!
To me, your eye is perfect.

    1. Thank you Emmy so much! I really really appreciate it, even though it sounds very empty when I write it like this. Super honored by your words. India was difficult to photograph!
I wholeheartedly support an ex tempore trip back to India! If not now, when? It's much too easy to dream about "later" but there's never going to be a perfect time. I'm not going back until next winter and for a short time too since I have studies that I want to finish as soon as possible. Summer's probably a really interesting time to go, with the monsoon and all.
Also - glad the playlist is appreciated! I'm crazy about the songs on it but mostly people just fall for Howrah Bridge's Mera Naam Chin Chin Chu and ignore the rest of the songs when I play them.

  4. I actually like the first song the best I think. All the epic love songs are so innocent in an endearing way. My best friend just called me from Switzerland and told me she'll come, and I'm so.happy. You know when you really want to show a place to someone you love and you think it will change their life. I have to visit some of the places you photographed, especially that one with the amazing boulders (will check the name later). Maybe I'll drop you an email at some point and ask for more music and itinerary tips!

    1. I know exactly what you mean! So great :)
I definitely recommend Karnataka, where Hampi is (the boulder-place) - this is taken right outside the village. If you're planning to visit the south, that is. Not very difficult to get to if you're flying to Mumbai!
Feel free to drop me a line anytime - and I keep adding songs to the youtube-list so you can always check back to it :)
